Recap: Founders Launchpad Demo Day 2023, co-presented by Aspire

Founders Launchpad's very first Demo Day, presented alongside Aspire, was a vibrant showcase of startups spanning diverse industries. The event, hosted at Six/NEO in the bustling Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, marked the culmination of 12 weeks of relentless hard work and unwavering dedication.

The 12-week program was no walk in the park. We organized over 30 engaging workshops and talks hosted by seasoned founders and industry experts. These sessions equipped the cohort with the knowledge and skills necessary to kickstart their entrepreneurial journey with confidence. We also had close to 1,500 minutes of pitch practice and tons of hands-on meetings to guide our startups to where they are today. Here is a look inside the program.

The results spoke volumes - our startups collectively generated a remarkable US$100,000 in sales and achieved a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of US$26,000 in just a dozen weeks.

These achievements not only validate the effectiveness of the program but also underscore the potential of Philippine startups to make a significant impact in the Philippines and beyond. Founders Launchpad's future looks promising, with innovation and entrepreneurial spirit at the forefront.

Our startups shone at the heart of Demo Day Success

The crowning moment of this journey was Demo Day, where the first cohort showcased their live solutions to a captivated audience.

The main event showcased pitches from our six promising startups from the first cohort — Itemcount, a SaaS AI operations manager that allows businesses to manage inventory and sales with one seamless system; Rezbin, a CleanTech startup that utilizes technology to make plastic waste recovery easy and profitable; Safe, securing online transactions on platforms that are prone to scams as a trusted middleman between e-commerce buyers and sellers; MedsGo, the first omnichannel pharmacy aggregator in the Philippines, combining an online marketplace with physical micro pharmacies; Supafaya, a marketplace for sneakers, collectibles and more; and Kippap, an EdTech startup on a mission to revolutionize the way students prepare for standardized exams.

Keeping an audience of 300+ potential investors, partners, entrepreneurs, and mentors engaged, the event garnered interest from various parts of the world, including investors from Southeast Asia and the US, as well as hundreds of livestream viewers.

“As we continue on our startup journey, we carry the lessons and the spirit of demo day success with us. We're excited about what the future holds, knowing that each day is an opportunity to innovate, grow, and make a difference in the world,” Simon Bauer, Program Lead at Founders Launchpad, adds.

While it marks the end of our cohort, it signals a renewed beginning in our journey as an incubator. Our aim at Founders Launchpad is to be at the forefront of the resources available to startups. There are massive opportunities to be tackled in the Philippines, and we aim to bring those dreams to reality.

Setting the stage with Aspire

This is further made possible by our fabulous partners, creating a supportive ecosystem around our startups. Especially with Aspire as our Demo Day co-presenter, they helped make this event a memorable moment for the startups in our cohort and the attendees. With their financial services, they support our startups and are starting to empower more and more startups in the Philippines.

“Their startups are focused on solving real-world problems in practical ways. Even at an early stage, you can see the outlines of successful, scalable business models,” quotes Remus Lim, Commercial and Partnerships Manager at Aspire. He further adds, “The event was very well executed. It was clear, organized, and interactive - with a high-energy crowd. Attendees all had their fair share of engagement. Strong showing, especially for a first demo day,”

Headquartered in Singapore, Aspire serves over 15,000 businesses, including over 5,000 businesses in Indonesia and thousands across the rest of Southeast Asia and APAC. Its product offerings range from corporate cards, multi-currency business accounts, and FX payments to payroll and expense management. The company has been expanding its client list, which includes popular companies like Air Asia, Carousell, Love Bonito, Endowus, and Tech In Asia, which it counts as customers.

Aspire is ranked among the top ten fastest-growing companies in 2023, compiled by The Straits Times and Statista, hitting profitability just months after closing its US$100 million series C funding round.

Our first Demo day’s success is a testament to the resilience, innovation, and passion that define the startup world. It's a celebration of the dreams and aspirations that drive entrepreneurs to create something meaningful and help shape the future.

Founders Launchpad was deeply impressed by the hard work and dedication of our startups, and is thrilled to be supporting them along the way of building impactful ventures.
